About FECCS:
The Fudan-EuropeanCentre for China Studies (FECCS) serves as a bridge and platform for thepromotion of academic collaboration between China and Europe, more specificallybetween Fudan University (FU) and Universities in Europe. Based at theUniversity of Oslo (UiO), the Centre facilitates new and existing jointresearch projects involving scholars at FU and UiO, and use existing universitynetworks at both universities, mainly in Asia and Europe, to further strengthenChinaEurope collaborations with a focus on research, research-basedcommunication in society, and post-graduate student exchange.

Session I: Climate Change andSustainability

Climate change has been recognized as anincreasingly serious threat at the global level, together with concerns aboutenvironmental issues (e.g. air pollution) at the regional and local levelparticularly in cities. Energy systems and energy use play a significant rolein producing both carbon emission and air pollutants, thus linking the two.China, Norway and others have made a commitment to achieve the goal of carbonpeak and neutrality. Which sustainable energy approaches can achieve the goalsof carbon peak and neutrality in China? What are the co-benefits of energytransition in tackling climate change? And are there potential negativeeffects? What is the role of cities in dealing with climate change andenvironmental issues at the local level? How can researchers from bothcountries learn from each other and work together with common interests?

The human brain and its disorders remain akey challenge in health-related research. Recent technology development inbrain imaging and genetics has provided novel opportunities for new insight,and together with population birth cohorts capturing environmental stressors itis now possible to revolutionize our understanding of brain-related traits anddisorders. How can we obtain synergy between China and Norway in brainresearch, and which research projects can benefit most from collaboration?

Human society is facing a shared anxiety ofthe future, in the context of a changing global order, spreading of disruptivetechnology, public health emergency and others. Fiction used to look back inhistory and seek for experiences or reflections, but now it casts more and morevalue in the future. What kind of futures have been imaged in various format offiction? How can fiction help us to influence and share the future? How can wepursue multiple, diverse and rich futures instead of a single unified andlinear one via fiction?
